TEXAS LAW ENFORCEMENT REFERENCE

One place to read, find, and follow Texas law.

The Texas Field Guide brings statutes, linked definitions, case law, and practical reference categories into a searchable workspace for officers. This page shows what is in the guide before you create an account.

Read state codes with their context

Browse the Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Transportation Code, Health and Safety Code, and other Texas state-law collections in the guide. Open a section to read its text, then use the adjacent Definitions & References panel for linked terms and cited provisions. Source links let you check the underlying material.

Find the right part of the guide

The selected tab sets the scope for search and filters. State Codes can be narrowed by code, chapter, and topic; the Case Law area can be browsed by situation. The guide also includes Penalty Groups, Legal Reference, Favorites, and Local Ordinances.

Frisco, Prosper, and Little Elm ordinance packs are available for members to download into the guide. Only packages saved on your device appear in its ordinance menu.

Keep legal reference close

Case-law cards, doctrines, and Bill of Rights material sit beside the code collections. Case cards link to their respective Justia opinion pages where available. The guide is a reading and discovery tool; officers should check current authority and agency policy before relying on an entry.

How access works

  1. Create an account and verify your email.
  2. Complete your Texas profile.
  3. Choose a monthly or annual plan if your account does not already have lifetime access. Eligible accounts can start a seven-day trial with a payment method.
  4. Open the Texas guide from your account home. While online, save it for offline use if you need it without a signal.

Accounts granted free lifetime access do not need a subscription or payment information. All accounts still need a fresh sign-in every 14 hours to open the guide.
